Acknowledgements for ARRM in Accessibility Roles and Responsibilities Mapping (ARRM)

ARRM is being developed through the Accessibility Roles and Responsibilities Mapping ARRM Community Group at W3C.

Origins of ARRM

ARRM traces back to independent work by Denis Boudreau and Bill Tyler over 15 years ago, each exploring role-based approaches to accessibility. In 2012, Denis posted the Accessibility Responsibility Breakdown on a W3C Community Group page. Denis and Bill met in person with Sean Kelly at the 2017 CSUN conference, where the alignment in their thinking sparked the foundation of ARRM work.

A group of dedicated volunteers worked to refine the concept under W3C’s Accessibility Education and Outreach Working Group (EOWG). In 2025, the Accessibility Roles and Responsibilities Mapping (ARRM) Community Group formed to continue this work. This collaborative effort culminated in the release of ARRM’s first draft under W3C guidance in 2025.
